Should I Get Clear Aligners?
Many people may think that the whole point of braces or clear aligners is to end up with a more beautiful and straighter smile, however, the number one goal of this treatment is really to correct misaligned teeth and bite issues to improve the overall health and functionality of your smile. A misaligned tooth or bite can cause jaw pain, strain when biting or chewing, and bad headaches or neck pain – affecting your health outside of just your mouth!
With traditional braces, small metal or porcelain brackets are placed on the front of each tooth, connected by wires that can be tightened to gradually shift your teeth into a perfect smile. A lot of people may be turned off by this method because it does have an obvious effect on your appearance. Braces can also be a lot less comfortable than clear aligners at times, as pieces of wire or brackets can rub against your tongue and gums, and food can easily get stuck in the nooks and crannies of your equipment.
Clear aligners are the perfect orthodontic solution if you are looking for a more subtle option than having a bunch of metal in your mouth. Our Invisalign treatment uses a series of custom-made, clear aligners to gently shift your smile. You will still have to visit us for regular check up appointments, as you will receive a new set of aligners every month or so to follow your individualized smile adjustment plan. Although the aligners are removable, you must make sure to wear them 20 – 22 hours a day, really only taking them out to eat, in order to successfully complete your treatment in the allotted time frame.
Even if you think your smile is “straight enough”, it is still worth scheduling a visit with one of our Invisalign experts in Belmont, NC for a free consultation. Clear aligners are not just an aesthetic treatment and preventing further shifts before the damage becomes difficult to treat is worth saving you the pain and extra money!
